EMDR Therapy
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing therapy. Originally created by Francine Shapiro to treat trauma, these days it can often be used to treat a wide variety of issues. Unlike some other therapies that are very cognitive-based, EMDR takes advantage of our brain’s built-in healing network called the Adaptive Information Processing network or AIP to heal maladaptive or dysfunctional networks. This same healing network is used by our brain during our deepest cycle of sleep to heal and regenerate the brain, just like any other organ in our body. In EMDR, certain eye-movements can be used to activate this healing network and directed at the maladaptive or dysfunctional brain networks that are causing issues.
What issues can be treated by EMDR?
